If you really want to know the current state of your "E," then you will need to do what I did in my '92. Carry a few gallons of gas with you and drive your car until it runs out of gas. I did that once. Back and forth on a road with a lot of gas stations even though I was carrying gas. There may be some reactions here telling you that it's bad for your fuel pump or engine to do that, but I did it once, turned the key off as soon as she died, and no problems to report. The scariest part of the experiment was making sure I did not spill any gas inside my Z.
